Using the Hilton HHonors Aspire Amex Airline Incidental Credit for Cheap Tickets on JetBlue

I have a data point to share if you need to burn your $250 airline incidental credit on your Hilton HHonors Aspire Amex card. I recently opened the card and wanted to be sure I receive the full value of this credit before the end of the 2022 calendar year.

My wife has to travel to New York in November, and I found a $176 roundtrip flight on JetBlue from South Florida. I had read that, although the credit isn’t supposed to apply to airfare, sometimes it can be triggered by purchasing tickets for less than $100 each. With nothing to lose, I broke the roundtrip flight into two separate $88 one way tickets. (Be sure to select JetBlue as your airline designated for this credit in the Benefits section of your Amex online account first.) Three days later, the progress bar went from $0 credit used to $176 used, and the next day after that, the two credits posted to my account.

Again, American Express specifically state that this credit does not apply to airfare, so your results may vary, but if you are stuck using this credit, then it might be worth giving this work-around a try.
